Photo: President Buhari recieves Gambian President, Adama Barrow at the State House

This afternoon, President Muhammadu buhari recieved the President of The Gambia, President Adama Barrow at the State House, Abuja.

Recall that Adama Barrow was elected president of The Gambia on December 1, 2016. He defeated the then incumbent President Yahya Jammeh who subsequently refused to step down. His refusal to allow a peaceful take-over by Jammeh was globally condemned and also forced the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS move troops into the country on January 10, 2017. However, Jammeh stepped down two days later. Nigeria played a prominent role in restoring the victory of Barrow.

Today, as he visits Nigeria, President Buhari recalled on his twitter handle:

"Today I welcomed the President of The Gambia, , to the Presidential Villa. I'm delighted that Nigeria was able to offer support during a very critical period. I look forward to continuing collaboration between our two countries."
