JUST IN: Top Osun Politician sentenced to 3 years in prison for stealing N22M

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has announced the successful prosecution of Chief Rufus Woleola Ojo, the ex-Chairman of Orolu Local Govt Area in Osun State. In a statement released on its twitter handle, the commission said the politician has been sentenced to 3 years in prison.
The prosecution started in 2013. See the tweet released today below.

"JUST IN: Chief Rufus Woleola Ojo, ex-Chairman, Orolu Local Govt Area in Osun State has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for diverting N22,058,021.30 meant for the council. His trial began May 28, 2013 when he was charged for stealing & using position for personal gratification"

It could be recalled that in 2010, Atilade Quadri and Comrade Bashir wrote a petition to the EFCC on behalf of Orolu Integrity Forum. The petitioners alleged that the accused collected money amounting to N22, 058,021 for class room construction. But instead of executing the projected Chief Oje was said to have diverted the funds into the accounts of Rulekal Ventures limited at Oceanic Bank. He was said to have confessed to diverting the funds to construct a personal poultry.

He was subsequently arraigned before Justice F.E. Owolabi of the Osun State High Court in 2013.
